Ahh, the holidays. That wonderful time of the year when you look forward to getting a mountain of presents. For the majority of Wilton children, this is a reality, but for some kids, it’s a sliver of dream pie.  A wish so unlikely that they stop thinking about it. Luckily, these kids may just have their holiday wishes come true this season. And YOU can help this dream become a reality.

Donate to Toys For Tots!

Toys For Tots was founded in 1947 by Diane Hendricks. Hendricks was trying to donate a homemade Raggedy Ann doll to a needy child, but she couldn’t find a good organization to assist her with her benevolence. With the help of her husband, a Marine, she founded Toys For Tots. The Marine Corps Reserve continues this holiday tradition every year!

Middlebrook is having their annual Toys For Tots Drive this week. On each team there are boxes where you can donate NEW, UNUSED, UNWRAPPED TOYS. Don’t have anything that fits these requirements? That’s okay. At lunch, students will be selling paper trains for $1.00 each. The money raised at each lunch wave will be handed to the Toys for Tots representative and will go directly towards the purchase of a new toy.

“I’ve been advising the Student Council for 15 years and the Toys For Tots fundraiser has been going on for at least that many years. There are also many businesses in town that support the Toys for Tots campaign,” says school counselor, Mr. Gerundo. He adds, “Middlebrook has been a top donator for a while because of the large size of [our] school, and the amount of giving, caring students here.”

“It feels really good to know you’re helping kids. You feel good when you do good,” says 7-Red science teacher, Mrs. Norman, when asked about her feelings on Toys For Tots.

Remember to bring in your toys or money this week!
